Patricia Okoumou, Woman Who Scaled Statue of Liberty to Protest Trump’s Anti-Immigrant Policies, Releases Statement To Supporters, Advocates for Immigrant Rights

New York, NY -- Following her epic climb up the Statue of Liberty on Independence Day, and the creation of false gofundme accounts attempting to raise money in her name without authorization, Patricia Okoumou released the following statement to supporters:

“I am so grateful to everyone who has expressed support and offered help since my July 4 protest action at the Statue of Liberty. I am being represented in court pro bono and was released without bail, so I do not have any fundraising needs at this time.

“I have not authorized any of the crowdfunding appeals that are circulating in my name. I do plan to continue to use my voice in this very important conversation in the future. I’ve set-up new social media accounts where you can follow me on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

“The best way to show your support for me is to join me in calling for all detained migrant children to be immediately released and reunited with their families. Anyone who wishes to make a financial contribution can support the Texas Civil Rights Project (https://texascivilrightsproject.org/) or the Florence Project (https://firrp.org/).”
